It’s the little things that matter, those small OCD nuances that you must find and cure in order to maximize your creativity. One of those small matters, some would argue is a big important matter, is what music you listen to while working.
Lately, I have been listening to long, funky, jazzy, just plain fresh mixes from Beatonic and Trackwerk and my productivity has skyrocketed. I no longer fiddle with my iTunes or wonder what song i’m going to play next. Music is very important to me, it helps get me into the ’state of flow’. I’m able to achieve flow when listening to these mixes, as they usually last for 45 minutes, and the best of 2006 on Trackwerk is the longest at 2 1/2 hours.
Check out the music and let me know what you think. You can play them from the site or download them for free.

I am sitting in a wi-fi enabled Panera writing my blog and building a few of my niche websites. The Panera employee nearby is also doing his job, wiping down the tables in between orders. It seems ironic that both of us are doing our jobs in the same vicinity, and one of us is obviously enjoying his more than the other–at least to me.
The interesting catch is that skill level doesn’t really separate us, just risk taking ability. You don’t need superior intelligence to make a living on the internet. Actually, you probably need a bulls**t meter more than anything else. I am not wildly successful in my endeavors just yet, but seeing this mid 20’s Panera employee work for minimum wage makes me understand why I have become an internet marketer. Its my own business. I am the master of my own domain, if you will. What does that mean exactly?
It means many things; in the general sense you are in control of your life and destiny. In the business sense, you have your ‘own business’ and are your own master because 1) you work when and where you want and 2) you dont’ have a boss.
- You don’t have anyone telling you when to get to work, when to leave, and what to do. There are no new policies to follow and no boring weekly update meetings. You make your own rules and decide when and where you work–in this case for myself a Panera in Hoboken, New Jersey. ( I just returned from Thailand and decided to stay here a couple days with my old college roommate).
Ofcourse there comes responsibility and burden if you ‘own your own business.’ If you don’t have a part time job for at least six months, you will not have medical insurance. You will have the burden of paying all your medical expenses out of your pocket until you make enough residual income to pay for your own ‘home business’ medical insurance. Try to take care of your health and not spend too many waking hours, dare I say wasteful hours, browsing the internet if its not highly relevant to your business.
You will have the responsibility to budget all your expenses and manage your time wisely. If you are lazy, then you probably won’t make the best self-employed worker/entrepreneur. (I know a ‘lazy entrepreneur’ who exports cheap clothing and accessories from Thailand to England, but if he wasn’t so lazy, he could be making two or three times more profit).
The lesson to be learned here, my fellow Panera employees, is that time-management is probably the most important aspect of being an entrepreneur. If you can become an efficient worker, then you will truly become the master of your own domain.
